It is called the Ace of Spades Forest, and it was born on an unused patch of the A5 motorway service area, in Oeiras. In a single day, 175 trees and shrubs of 27 native species were planted.
The action brought together 90 volunteers from Capgemini and Brisa, and from Colégio da Torre, whose students played an active part in the planting, with support from Valorsul, which supplied the compost, and NAM Mushroom Farm, responsible for the ground cover. A year and a half later, the forest keeps bringing employees back: teams regularly gather for maintenance days, keeping alive the relationship between the companies and the space they helped create.
More than greenery at a service station, the Ace of Spades Forest shows that even a space with this function can make room for native biodiversity.
